Weekly Shinedown - Song Twenty One - Devour!

Hey There!

The next Shinedown song that I discovered was Devour! This isn't the typical song that I would chpose to listen to, but I'm really glad that I heard this song because I really like it.

It all started one Thursday night in November 2014 at my youth club at church. The song was playing on the loudspeakers, and my Uncle Peter came up to me singing it. I didn't know the words, so I just watched him singing it, and it was quite funny to watch.

Anyway, I forgot about this song for a while, but then one night, I was waiting to use the shower at home, so I was just scrolling down Spotify, and decided to listen to some Shinedown songs. At the time, I decided that Devour seemed like a good name of a song, so I just clicked on it. Little did I know that it was the song that I had once heard at youth club!

It seemed like such a heavy song at the time, but I really liked it, so I continued to listen to it, until I had adapted to this new style of music. I'm really glad that I chose to listen to this song, because it really opened up my choices of Shinedown songs for the future!

To me, the lyrics of the song kind of signify a ruler of a country who is rather greedy and not very successful, therefore, they are literally suffocating their own empire because the end is approaching.

The song also really helped me with an English exam that I did not long after I listened to the song. One of the words that I had to analyse was "devour" and because I had recently looked into the meaning of this song, I was able to write a lot about the word "devour" and I can only thank Shinedown for this!

I have also listened to some acoustic versions of Devour, and they seem like they would be amazing to play on the guitar, so if I can ever find a website that had accurate chords on for Devour, I may just give it a shot
