Weekly Shinedown - Song Thirty Four - Amaryllis!

Hey There!

Amaryllis is one of my top Shinedown songs that I have heard, and I really do think that it is such a wonderful song. I believe that I heard this song in December 2014, because whenever I listen to this song, it will always remind me of winter times.

I was listening to the whole of Shinedown's fourth album, also called Amaryllis, whilst I was working in IT one day. Since it is the third song on the album, I heard it right at the beginning, and from my initial listening to the album, Amaryllis was the song that impacted me the most at the time. I remember that for a long time afterwards, I always had the song in my head, and I decided to learn the chorus pretty quickly so that I could sing it in my spare time!

The meaning of Amaryllis is such a lovely one to me. First of all, it reminded me of the Greek myth about the shepherdess Amaryllis, who fell in love with a shepherd by giving him some Amaryllis flowers. My favourite line in the song is "so do I remind you of someone you never met?" because it could show that they only know this person from their dreams. Also, it is as if he is wanting her to trust him by opening up to him, by the use of the word "bloom" throughout the song. Amaryllis really is one of my favourite Song Meanings out of all of their songs!

Amaryllis is now of my favourite songs by Shinedown to sing to. Plus I can even play the song on my guitar, which is an extra bonus! If you're excited for Shinedown's fifth album like I am, let me know and we can all be excited together!

I'll see you all next Thursday!

P.S. I'll leave the lyrics to Amaryllis below incase you're interested!

In a while now I will feel better
I’ll face the weather before me
In a while now I’ll race the irony
And buy back each word of my eulogy

All the uninvited tragedies
Step outside

Ask yourself now
Where would you be without
Days like this
When you finally collide
With the moment you can’t forget

So do I remind you of
Someone you never met
A lonely silhouette
And do I remind you of
Somewhere you wanna be
So far out of reach
Ohhh I wish you’d open up for me
Cause I wanna know you
Amaryllis
Bloom

Stay a while now
Undress your colors
Cause they’re like no others
I’ve ever seen
I could get used to your company
Step inside

Ask yourself now
Where would you be without
Days like this
When you finally collide
With the motions you can’t resist

So do I remind you of
Someone you never met
A lonely silhouette
And do I remind you of
Somewhere you wanna be
So far out of reach
Ohhh I wish you’d open up for me
Cause I wanna know you
Amaryllis

In a while now
I will feel better
I will be better

So do I remind you of
Someone you never met
A lonely silhouette
And do I remind you of
Somewhere you wanna be
So far out of reach
Ohhh I wish you’d open up for me
Cause I wanna know you
Amaryllis
Bloom
Amaryllis
Bloom
Amaryllis

Weekly Shinedown - Song Thirty Three - Her Name Is Alice!

Hey There!

I also found out about Her Name Is Alice whilst I was listening to The Sound Of Madness album. It was one of the last songs on the album that I heard, and I listen to it a lot from now on.

Whilst I was still doing my IT project in early January 2015, I started doing bits in my lunchtimes and breaks. However, I didn't have enough time to listen to full Shinedown albums like I did when I was there for hours after school. Instead, I would just listen to a couple of songs from the end of the albums, and Her Name Is Alice was often where I would start from The Sound Of Madness, which would be followed by Diamond Eyes, and then Breaking Inside.

I've seen that this song is also on the Almost Alice album, which I know that my friend Sam really likes. I haven't listened to the full album, but I'm hoping to do soon. I really like the lyrics to Her Name Is Alice because they really tie in with the film, and I just think that the whole song was really well written!

The chords to Her Name Is Alice don't seem too complicated, so if I tried hard enough, I'm pretty sure that I could do it. Also don't forget that you can read some of my older posts from earlier this year!

I'll see you all next Thursday!

P.S. I'll leave the lyrics to Her Name Is Alice below incase you're interested!

("If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense")
("Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't")

I invite you to a world where there is no such thing as time
And every creature lends themselves to change your state of mind
And the girl that chased the rabbit, drank the wine, and took the pill
Has locked herself in limbo to see how it truly feels

To stand outside your virtue
No one can ever hurt you
Or so they say

Her name is Alice (Alice)
She crawls into the window
Through shapes and shadows
Alice (Alice)
And even though she's dreaming, she knows

Sometimes the curiosity can kill the soul but leave the pain
And every ounce of innocence is left inside her brain
And through the looking glass we see she's painfully returned
But now off with her head I fear is everyone's concern

You see there's no real ending
It's only the beginning
Come out and play

Her name is Alice (Alice)
She crawls into the window
Through shapes and shadows
Alice (Alice)
And even though she's dreaming
She's unlocked the meaning for you

This kingdom
Good riddance
Her freedom
And innocence
Has brought this whole thing down

Her name is Alice (Alice)
She crawls into to the window
Through shapes and shadows
Alice (Alice)
And even though she's dreaming
She's unlocked the meaning

("Red nights, white knights, marching into the fight")
("Drink me, shrink me, fill me to sink me")
("Red nights, white knights, marching into the fight")
("Drink me, shrink me, fill me to sink me")

She's unlocked the meaning for you

("And contrariwise, what it is it wouldn't be")
("And what it wouldn't be it would")
("You see?")

Weekly Shinedown - Song Thirty Two - Cyanide Sweet Tooth Suicide!

Hey There!

So my next Shinedown song was also discovered through listening to Shinedown's third album called The Sound Of Madness. It is towards the end of the album, so of course this was one of the last songs that I heard.

I wouldn't say that it was one of my favourite songs by Shinedown, but I still do like it. It kind of reminds me of one of my old school friends, especially with the line of "black lips, pale eyes" because it always reminds me of her.

I'm not actually sure of the meaning behind Cyanide Sweet Tooth Suicide, but I may keep searching online until I find a good one. Additionally, I also can't find a good set of guitar chords for the song either, so it doesn't look like I'll ever be playing it!

Be sure to check out some of my earlier posts, and visit here every Thursday for more updates!

I'll see you all next Thursday!

P.S. I'll leave the lyrics to Cyanide Sweet Tooth Suicide below incase you're interested!

She's a steel thrill suicide they say,
Cyanide in her plastic veins
She's a mannequin of misery,
She's on a bender,
But she ain't gonna break

Hey, hey

Taste like sugar, but it's Novocaine
She's grinding teeth,
She can sharpen the pain
White lights, train wreck

Black lips, pale eyes
Cyanide sweet tooth suicide
She's a killer,
She's my,
Cyanide sweet tooth suicide

Strychnine
Cerebellum feeds the brain,
Hurricane in a violent rage
They say,
She's a looker just like Anna Nicole
Oh, no
Forget the silver,
Let's go straight for the gold

Hey, hey

Digging deeper than a six foot hole,
She's snorting cocaine through a suicide note
White light. Train wreck

White lights. Train wreck

Black lips, pale eyes
Cyanide sweet tooth suicide
She's a zero,
What about now?
Cyanide sweet tooth suicide

Weekly Shinedown - Song Thirty One - What A Shame!

Hey There!

So What A Shame can also be found on Shinedown's album called The Sound Of Madness. It also happens to be one of my favourites because of the whole structure of it all. I remember listening to it around December 2014 whilst I was listening to the whole album, but I also kept watching this particular song on YouTube because I liked it so much!

The meaning behind What A Shame is that people can always be quick to judge many people. Shinedown's lead singer, Brent Smith, apparently wrote this not long after his Uncle died, and it was specifically dedicated to him. This song kind of reminds me of my Uncle Peter for originally getting me into Shinedown on his 53rd Birthday. I also get the feeling in this song that from the chorus, God could be judging the man in the song, and telling him that it is too late to go to Heaven. Since my Uncle Peter is a Christian, this song could not be about him, but it can still kind of remind me of him!

My favourite part of What A Shame has got to be the chorus, because it is the best part to sing along to, and he lyrics have just been written so truthfully!

Around January 2015, I remember listening to  guitar cover of What A Shame whilst I sang along to it. It actually sounded really nice, and I also tried playing a section of the song on guitar, which went better than I thought it would, but I still need a lot of practise on most of the chords.

It is also my 16th Birthday when this post comes out, so when I next see you all, I'll be a whole year older!

I'll see you all next Thursday!

P.S. I'll leave the lyrics below to What A Shame incase you're interested!

Two packs of cigarettes a day
The strongest whiskey
Kentucky can make
That's a recipe to put a vagabond
On his hands and knees
I watched it all up close,
I knew him more than most
I saw a side of him he never showed
Full of sympathy for a world that
Wouldn't let him be

That's the man he was,
Have you heard enough?

What a shame, what a shame,
To judge a life that you can't change
The choir sings, the church bells ring
So, won't you give this man his wings?
What a shame to have to beg you to
See we're not all the same
What a shame

There's a hard life for every silver spoon
There's a touch of grey for every shade
Of blue
That's the way that I see life
If there was nothing wrong,
Then there'd be nothing right
And for this working man they say could
Barely stand
There's gotta be a better place to land
Some kind of remedy for a world that
Wouldn't let him be

That's the man he was,
Have you heard enough?

What a shame, what a shame,
To judge a life that you can't change
The choir sings, the church bells ring
So, won't you give this man his wings?
What a shame to have to beg you to
See we're not all the same
What a shame

God forgive the hands that laid you down
They never knew how much a broken heart can break the sound and change the season
Now the leaves are falling faster,
Happily ever after
You gave me hope through your endeavors
And now you will live forever

What a shame, what a shame,
To judge a life that you can't change
The choir sings, the church bells ring
So, won't you give this man his wings?
What a shame to have to beg you to
See we're not all the same
What a shame, what a shame
'Cause we're not all the same
What a shame, what a shame
'Cause we're not all the same
